WRITERS’ ROOM

Cheerful Secrets is hosting a Writers’ Room workshop this summer for Austin-based writers! Applications are due by May 31st, and all experience levels are welcome to apply. Dates/times are TBD, but the workshop will consist of two 2.5-hour work sessions held in-person, with homework in between, and participants will receive a small stipend. The workshop is designed and led by Cheerful Secrets founder, Rebecca Maag, and the focus will be on writing half-hour comedic scripts for the immersive experience, Overheard on a Train.

Why should you apply? This workshop is designed to be win-win-win. You win because you’ll get writing experience for a public-facing project and the chance to see your words brought to life out in the real world. Cheerful Secrets wins because its writing staff is temporarily increased to get more work done. And the creative community of Austin wins because the workshop will bring together fun, clever people who are destined to become friends and collaborators.

If you’re accepted and you complete all portions of the workshop (including the homework), then you will receive a writing credit and a $100 stipend, on the understanding that the writing you produce for this workshop will belong to Cheerful Secrets as a work made for hire. But aside from the stipend, we hope that you’re drawn to the chance for creative collaboration on a tangible goal, and the opportunity to hone your skills among other Austin writers.

Watch this short message from Rebecca, and if you like what you hear, please fill out the application and share this link with your other creative friends.

We look forward to hearing from you!
