Cheerful Secrets creates unique interactive events

In his essays about the function of society, Ralph Waldo Emerson celebrated conversation. He valued individuals who were “interested in thoughts”—their own and other people’s—and he applauded those who shared with others “the grand and cheerful secrets” that the human mind can compose.

We adopted the name “Cheerful Secrets” because we also delight in conversation. And we hope that by creating conversation among people, everyone’s life becomes a bit more grand and full of cheer.

We aim to foster conversation by creating unique interactive events in Austin. We want to tell stories and create interactions so full of life that, according to Emerson, we “dispose all others irresistibly to good humor and discourse.”

Whether through immersive theatre, interactive storytelling, visual arts, musical events, or facilitated discussion—there are countless ways to create conversation, and we’re ready to explore them all.

Cheerful Secrets was founded by Rebecca Maag. She is a lawyer in the clean energy industry and a writer/director/producer. Rebecca loves bringing people together. And she tries, at least as a general matter, to land on the right side of the line between being organized and over-bearing.

So, if you went to a party and there wasn’t instructional signage and a follow-up email, then you probably weren’t at Rebecca’s house. But if there was and you were, then she hopes you had a fun time.
